68 year old surfer survives shark attack

According to KHON, a shark took a serious chunk out of Jim Rawlinson’s board while surfing in Hanalei Bay, Kauai, possibly mistaking it for a sea turtle. Incredibly, Rawlinson managed to escape the encounter by wrangling the predator’s fin, straddling it, and holding on “for five to 10 seconds” while unshackling his surf leash and swimming to safety through breakers. Best of all, Rawlinson opted to continue surfing for another 45 minutes after the shark attack. If the AARP has a Hall of Fame for senior citizen bad-assness, we’d like to nominate Rawlinson’s immediate induction. Video of the news report is after the jump
