Lightning Strikes in New Mexico

A group of people were hospitalized after being hit by lightning while waiting to watch fireworks in Rio Rancho on Saturday.
The incident happened at Loma Colorado Park near Rio Rancho High School.
At about 7:30 Saturday evening, a very strong thunderstorm moved through the area. Rio Rancho police say a group of seven people were huddled together trying to ride out the storm when lightning struck.
Two adults and four children were injured. All were taken to the hosptial.
The kids are said to be OK, but the adults are more seriously injured.
Witnesses said the ground shook when the lightning struck.
John Francis with Rio Rancho police said, “Two of the adults were serious. CPR was in progress when they left.”
No word on the condition of the two adults.
The weather moved out of the area and the fireworks went off on time.
